On March 7, 2025, the village of Al-Rusafa was subjected to a mass massacre carried out by members of the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the security forces, resulting in the martyrdom of brothers Mohammed and Ali Salman Rustum. The family was subjected to continuous threats and intimidation, and they were detained in their homes without food or water for extended periods, while bodies were dumped in the main streets. These violations constitute a grave breach of international human rights law, including wilful killing, torture, and forced displacement. These acts also constitute war crimes under the Statute of the International Criminal Court.
